101 Things

"Everyone knows that grown-ups are really just big kids. It doesn't matter how young or old a person might be, there's always time to learn and discover new things."

Published by Hinkler Books, '101 Things To Do Before You Grow Up' contains recipes for Construction, Survival, Science, Trickery, Gadgets and Entertainment.
I am yet to stumble across a recipe for disaster, but I am sure I will get there around the 'Construct a Billy Cart' mark.

I have always been one for wanting to experience everything so that I had a great story to tell when I'm old and senile - well, a story that I wouldn't make up because I'm old and senile.
'I remember the day I grew a stalactite...'. Ok, so unless I have nerdy grand-children they probably won't care about that, but I will because it's something I accomplished that not many others have.

Twice a week I set aside some time to go through each of the six sections and randomly decide what I shall create today based on the tools they require. So far I have attempted (and been somewhat successful) in completing the following:

  • Make a Paper Plane - Success!
  • Tell Your Fortune - Success!
  • Make Lightening - Failed :(
  • Make a Kite - Success!
  • Suck an Egg into a Bottle - Failed :(
  • Learn some No- Fail Card Tricks - Success!
  • Tie Knots and Stitches - Success!

I am eager to learn Survival skills such as 'Dealing with Poison Bites' and 'Build an Emergency Shelter' because let's face it, living out west on acres and never remembering my house keys will prove to disadvantage me at some point.

I encourage everybody to take some time out in their lives to experience the things that used to be fun before drinking and partying was a possibility.

Use your imagination - or, if you don't have one - the imagination of those who wrote this book.
